What to expect

Most people report feeling nervous at the outset of their first psychology appointment. Talking about your inner most thoughts, feelings, fears and experiences with someone you have just met can feel a little daunting. That said, my goal is always to provide as much warmth, support and good humor to help make the process as easy as possible, with the goal of shifting those feelings for you by the end of the conversation.

In the first sessions we work on gaining an understanding of the difficulties you would like to address, explore the symptoms and impact of these issues on your functioning, along with discussing your family and medical history to get the full picture. We will talk about a plan of action, including discussion about the skills and strategies I think will be of use for you. While it's my job to help assess the issues and work on formulating a plan to help, I also am keen to be as collaborative as possible in discussing the goals and outcomes you want to achieve.
